Pest Scene Investigations can solve your Wasp problem.
There are over 75,000 species of wasps; the most common in Greater Victoria are Yellow Jacket, Paper Wasps, and Hornets. Wasps are generally beneficial insects. In early summer they pollinate flowers and plants, much like bees do, and are important to the ecosystem. However, once they penetrate your home, they become pests. If this happens, it is not only frustrating but unsafe. They can injure yourself, your family, and your pets with their stingers. And if you have allergies, their sting can even be deadly.
If you’ve spotted a nest in your attic or your garage, it can wreak havoc on your enjoyment of your home. You’ll probably want to get rid of the problem as soon as possible. However, we don’t recommend you try to get rid of the wasps yourself as it will probably lead to you getting stung—or worse. Instead, let our trained technicians handle it.
Wasp colonies generally last for less than a year. Once winter approaches, all the wasps die out. All, that is, except for the queens who lay dormant. They breed, making new workers and queens. Once the new queens reach maturity, they leave their old nest in search of a new one–which hopefully isn’t your home. Queen wasps can produce up to 200 eggs per day which hatch after a couple of days.
Eliminating wasps isn't as easy as swiping the nest with a broom. Killing individual wasps won’t help eliminate the overall infestation. You need to get to the queen if you want to solve the problem once and for all. In addition, Yellow Jackets, Paper Wasps, and Hornets nests need to be all treated differently. Don’t let the problem persist and call us so we can dispatch our technicians.
